FAQs
What does RMN mean?
RMN stands for Registered Mental Health Nurse - it’s my professional nursing qualification, backed by years of NHS mental health experience. It means the support I offer comes from a genuine clinical background, not just training in a therapy technique.
To keep my RMN status I must revalidate with the Nursing and Midwifery Council every 3 years, which means I’m regularly reviewed to make sure my skills, knowledge, and practice stay current and safe. It’s my way of showing you that ongoing professional accountability is built into everything I do.
Are you working with me as a nurse during sessions?
No. While my NHS nursing background informs my understanding and practice, in my private sessions I work purely as a mental wellbeing, EFT and Matrix Reimprinting practitioner, not in a clinical nursing capacity. I cannot prescribe medication, make a diagnosis, or make changes to or influence your treatment with the NHS.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes. Everything discussed in sessions is treated with the same confidentiality and care you’d expect from any professional practitioner. The only time I would consider breaking confidentiality is if I believed that you or someone else was at risk. I will explain that more during our 1st session together.
I am under a mental health team, do I need to tell them I am having private therapy?
You don’t have to, it’s completely your choice, but it may help to inform your treatment/support with them if they know. We can talk this through together if you are struggling to decide.
How do I book a session?
Make a BookingSend a message, email, or book directly via the “Make a Booking” button for a free, no-obligation chat.
How many sessions would I need?
There’s no fixed number - it really depends on what you’re working through and how it feels day to day. Some people notice a shift after just 1 or 2 sessions, especially with something specific and recent. Other things, like long-held patterns, beliefs or past traumas, tend to unfold more gradually and benefit from ongoing sessions over a few weeks or months.
Most clients start with a single session to get a feel for the process, then decide together what pace makes sense from there. There’s no pressure to commit to a package upfront - we simply go at whatever speed feels right for you.
What will the 1st session look like?
Your first session starts with a relaxed conversation, no pressure, just space to share what’s brought you here and what you’re hoping to change or feel different about. There’s nothing to prepare and nothing you need to get “right” - we simply start where you are and work together.
From there, we’ll begin gently working with whatever you feel you would like to start with. You’ll be guided through the whole process, so you don’t need any prior experience with tapping or Matrix Reimprinting to get started. Most clients are surprised by how natural it feels, even in that very first hour.
By the end, you’ll have a sense of how your body and mind respond to the work, and together we’ll talk about what pace makes sense from there. Before we finish, we’ll talk together about how you’re feeling and what ongoing support may look like. Some things shift in a single session, while others take a few sessions to fully unpick - there’s no set formula, and we’ll shape a plan together at a pace that suits you, your budget and your goals.
How will you decide what techniques to use with me?
Every client is different, so sessions start with listening - to what you’re carrying, how it shows up for you, and what you’re hoping to get from our time together. From there, I draw on the right approach for what’s in front of us, whether that’s tapping, Matrix Reimprinting, or a blend of both.
There’s no fixed formula. As an RMN with years of mental health nursing experience alongside my EFT and Matrix Reimprinting training, I’m reading how you respond as we go and adjusting in real time - nothing is forced, and nothing happens before you’re ready for it. The right approach is simply whatever helps you feel safest and most supported in that moment.
Why 60-90 Minutes?
Standard clinical appointments are often restricted to a rigid 50 minutes. Having spent 19 years in the NHS, I know that emotional breakthroughs cannot be rushed.
By offering flexible 60 to 90-minute sessions for the flat rate of £80, we ensure there is always ample time to settle into the space, safely process deep emotions, and close the session feeling grounded, calm, and secure.
Can sessions be done online?
Yes, sessions can run online or in person, whichever feels most comfortable for you.
What does a session cost?
Sessions are £80, with block bookings available at £210 for three sessions or £400 for six. If you’re not sure where to start, I offer a free 30-minute discovery call to talk things through first.
What is EFT (Tapping) and how does it work?
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), also known as tapping, is a mind-body approach that combines gentle fingertip tapping on specific points on the face and upper body with a focus on thoughts, feelings or experiences that cause distress. It may help some people manage feelings of anxiety and stress and support emotional regulation.
Does EFT hurt?
No. The tapping is light and gentle, using your own fingertips on specific points on the face, hands, and upper body. Most people find it calming rather than uncomfortable.
Do I need to talk about what's troubling me in detail?
No. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as feels right, in your own words and at your own pace. EFT works with how something feels for you, not with the specifics of what happened.
Is EFT backed by evidence?
Yes, EFT has a growing body of research supporting its use, particularly for anxiety, stress, and trauma-related difficulties. I draw on my clinical nursing experience and relevant training to use EFT thoughtfully, with your individual needs, wellbeing and safety in mind
What is Matrix Reimprinting?
In Matrix Reimprinting, an echo is the term used to describe the younger version of yourself associated with a past distressing or traumatic experience.
It represents how you may have experienced and interpreted an event at the time, including the emotions, beliefs and feelings connected to it, such as fear, loneliness, rejection or not feeling good enough.
An echo is a concept used within the Matrix Reimprinting approach, rather than a scientifically established separate entity
You are an RMN, so why is this practice non-clinical?
As a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with 19 years in the NHS, I have a deep and rigorous understanding of clinical mental health conditions, risk assessment, and healthcare systems. However, Mandy Philp RMN is a private wellness practice designed specifically to work outside the rigid, clinical medical framework. I use my vast experience to hold a safe, expert space for you, but I do so using complementary, somatic tools rather than clinical diagnoses, psychiatric treatment, or medication management.
Can I see you if I am already receiving NHS treatment or taking medication?
Yes, absolutely. Because my work is holistic and non-clinical, it can beautifully complement existing medical care. It is a wonderful way to learn self-soothing techniques while you are on a waitlist or undergoing standard therapies. However, I am not a substitute for your medical doctor, and you should always continue any treatment or medication prescribed by your GP or psychiatrist.
Can I work with you if I have a mental health condition?
Possibly. We'll discuss your current wellbeing, support network and needs to make sure my services are safe and suitable. My therapies complement, but do not replace, medical or psychiatric care.
Are there situations where your services may not be suitable?
Yes. I do not work with people experiencing a mental health crisis, acute psychosis or those under the influence of alcohol or recreational drugs. If your needs fall outside my scope of practice, I'll help signpost you to appropriate support.
